In a significant development, 45 Indian nationals who were misled into joining the Russian military have been successfully rescued and discharged. However, 50 more Indians remain in the conflict zones of the Russia-Ukraine war, with efforts ongoing to bring them home, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

How Indians Were Misled into the Russian Army

A human trafficking network, spanning from New Delhi to Tamil Nadu, lured unsuspecting Indians into Russia with false promises of lucrative jobs and education. Many were assured employment in Russian companies or admission to dubious private universities. Upon arrival, their passports were seized, and they were forced into combat roles for the Russian Army, deployed on the front lines of the Ukraine war.

As per reports, at least four Indian nationals have lost their lives in this conflict.

Efforts by the Indian Government

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently addressed this issue with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Moscow. Putin has assured India that any Indians misled into joining the Russian military will be released. So far, 10 individuals have been brought back as part of this rescue operation.

India’s MEA has been in constant communication with Russian officials to ensure the safe return of all affected individuals. The government is also working on legal action against the human traffickers responsible for duping these individuals.

The Trafficking Network Behind the Scenes

This case has exposed a human trafficking network that uses social media and local agents to exploit vulnerable Indians. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the racket, and at least four individuals have been arrested. A viral video earlier this year revealed men from Punjab and Haryana, in military uniforms, pleading for help after being tricked into fighting in Ukraine.

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar condemned the incident, asserting that no Indian should ever be forced into such a situation. He promised strict legal action against the agents involved in this trafficking network.

What Lies Ahead

Efforts continue to rescue the remaining 50 Indian nationals still trapped in the war zones. The Indian government, with support from Russia, remains committed to ensuring the safety of its citizens. This ordeal highlights the importance of combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable populations from exploitation.

Conclusion

This is a developing story, and the Indian government, with the cooperation of Russia, is making every effort to bring back the remaining 50 Indian nationals still trapped in the war. This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of human trafficking and the urgent need for strict legal measures to prevent such exploitation.
