In the midst of ongoing conflict, Hamas is urging the United States to abandon its “blind bias” toward Israel and exert real pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. As hostilities between Israel and Hamas continue, the two sides are blaming each other for stalling talks on a potential ceasefire and hostage exchange deal.

Hamas Calls for US Intervention

Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas’s Qatar-based lead negotiator, has called on the US to push Netanyahu toward a ceasefire agreement. According to al-Hayya, the US must apply pressure on Israel to reach an agreement and stop its ongoing aggression. Despite these calls, Netanyahu stated that there is “not a deal in the making,” claiming that Hamas’s demands are too extreme and aimed at thwarting any potential agreement.

Hostage Crisis and Pressure on Netanyahu

The situation has escalated following the deaths of six Gaza captives, putting Netanyahu under increased pressure to negotiate. Israeli critics accuse him of failing to make the necessary concessions to secure a ceasefire deal. Protests erupted in several Israeli cities, with demonstrators urging Netanyahu to take action to bring the hostages home.

Netanyahu, however, has maintained a firm stance, insisting that Israel must retain control over key areas like the Philadelphi Corridor, a critical border zone with Egypt, to prevent Hamas from smuggling weapons. Hamas, on the other hand, demands a complete Israeli withdrawal from the area, further complicating negotiations.

Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

The ongoing conflict has resulted in a devastating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Israel’s retaliatory strikes following Hamas’s attacks have led to over 40,000 casualties, according to the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry. The United Nations has reported that most of the victims are women and children.

In addition to the loss of life, the bombardment has destroyed essential infrastructure, including water and sanitation systems. This destruction has led to the re-emergence of diseases like polio, with a massive vaccination drive currently underway. Efforts are being made to vaccinate over 640,000 children in Gaza, though challenges remain in reaching all affected areas.
