A dramatic shift in workplace preferences is underway, with Generation Z leading the charge. According to a recent poll, a staggering 76% of Gen Z are ditching traditional 9-5 jobs in favor of entrepreneurship. In comparison, 57% of millennials and even fewer members of Generation X share this mindset. This data reveals a new trend where independence, flexibility, and innovation are key drivers in career decisions for the younger generation.

Gen Z’s Rise in Entrepreneurship

The poll by Santander UK shows that Gen Z has unmatched confidence in their entrepreneurial potential. A remarkable 77% believe they can launch and manage a successful business. Even more impressively, 39% of respondents feel they can do so using just their smartphones.

As digital natives, Gen Z has grown up surrounded by technology, making them uniquely qualified to harness its power for business. They’ve seamlessly integrated technology into their everyday lives, enabling them to create, innovate, and run businesses with unprecedented ease.

Technology: The Key to Gen Z’s Success

One key advantage for Gen Z entrepreneurs is their familiarity with the digital world. Half of the survey respondents agreed that having grown up in the digital age gives both Gen Z and millennials a head start in business. Tools, platforms, and global networks are now accessible at the touch of a button, empowering them to think outside the box.

As Sam Jones, a prominent entrepreneur and Dragon’s Den star, notes:
“Gen Z is proving to be the most entrepreneurial generation yet. They’ve grown up fully immersed in the digital age, where tools, information, and connections are just a click away.”

This is what sets Gen Z apart. They don’t just know how to use technology — they leverage it to create meaningful, scalable businesses.

Entrepreneurship Is Ageless

Though Gen Z is leading the way, entrepreneurship isn’t exclusive to them. Mike Regnier, CEO of Santander UK, believes the qualities needed for success can emerge at any age:
“Entrepreneurship is driven by passion, curiosity, and the desire to create something meaningful. Whether you’re 22 or 52, those qualities are what drive business success.”

While Gen Z and millennials are widely seen as the most entrepreneurial, anyone can seize the opportunity to build something valuable. Age is not a barrier to innovation.
