Introduction to Real Education and Truth
In the age of information, discerning truth from deception has become increasingly challenging. Recently, while tuning into CNN for the news, I stumbled upon former President Donald Trump’s statements. Typically, I avoid his rhetoric, but this instance was a stark reminder of the modern-day snake oil salesmanship permeating our political landscape.
Understanding the Art of Deception
Trump’s delivery, characterized by making outlandish claims with a straight face, is reminiscent of age-old con artistry. A pattern emerges where he accuses others of shortcomings he himself embodies. For instance, labeling Vice President Kamala Harris as “not smart” is ironic, given her legitimate law degree from a reputable institution—not the defunct Trump University. It’s worth questioning whether Trump even possesses a high school diploma.
This method of deflection, now seemingly adopted by the Republican Party, involves projecting one’s faults onto opponents to divert scrutiny. It’s perplexing how many accept these tactics without question, a phenomenon Erasmus critiqued as early as 1509.
The Real Impact on Society
While it’s tempting to dismiss such figures, the ramifications of their deception are profound, influencing policies that affect countless lives. For example, Trump’s commentary on inflation reveals either a lack of understanding or a deliberate misrepresentation. Inflation, the diminishing value of money over time leading to increased prices, is often driven by corporations raising prices—entities like those Trump has been associated with. Instead of mitigating this, offering tax breaks to these corporations exacerbates national debt, a topic we’ve previously explored.
Another glaring example is Trump’s audacious claim, “Kamala, you’re fired!”—a statement not only baseless but dripping with irony, considering his electoral defeat three years prior.
